English Teaching Media Used by English Teachers at Favorite Junior High Schools

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the use of English teaching media at favorite junior high schools in Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu, Indonesia. The method of this study was descriptive-qualitative that involved six English teachers from three favorite Junior High Schools. The data of this study were taken by using an observation checklist and interview. The data of this study were analyzed qualitatively, namely data reflection, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study revealed that teachers used posters, images, LCD projector, cassette audio, flashcards, video, and laptop/computer as media in teaching English skills and knowledge. The picture was used to teaching reading. Flashcard was used to teach speaking, writing, reading, and grammar. LCD projector was used to teach English skills and knowledge. Cassette audio was used to teaching listening. The video was used to teaching listening and speaking. Furthermore, teachers used language laboratory when teaching listening. In conclusion, the teachers have used some media in teaching English skills and knowledge, and those media could help the students understand the English lessons, and improve their English ability.
